    KITCHEN WORKTOPS

The type of worktop you choose for your new kitchen should depend on your lifestyle and family circumstances. For example, a material that will stain or scuff easily is not the right choice if you have young children at home. The art of getting the right worktops is in deciding which type will benefit you the most, be durable for your usage, and above all look great for years to come. Depending on your budget, the sky is the limit for design and practicality, ranging from intricate curves and unusual shapes to the most basic yet practical styling.

For those who enjoy cooking, a worktop that is heat resistant such as granite is perfect because you can place hot pans directly on the surface without worrying about burn marks.

All materials used for worktops have their advantages and disadvantages over others, so it’s important to take a look at the different factors involved.

The list below is aimed to provide you with useful information on some of the more popular choices of worktops available. This will give you a basic idea, but don’t hesitate to call us so one of our expert kitchen fitters can inform you more in-depth on the pros and cons of each material.

    Laminate Worktops

Laminate is a very popular choice for kitchen worktops and works well for food preparation, the sink and cooker areas, and kitchen usage in general.

We can supply laminate worktops which look like high-end materials such as solid wood, stone and granite; so a laminate worktop will fit in with any rustic or modern design you have in mind.

A laminate kitchen worktop will cost around £60 per square metre, and the low price reflects that laminate is not as durable as other worktop surfaces, and you should not cut directly onto the worktop or place hot pans on laminate.

    Solid Wood Worktops

Solid wood worktops are perfect for kitchen islands and food preparation areas. Teak is a popular choice of solid wood for around the sink as it is resistant to water.

Perhaps the best thing about a solid wood surface is the warm atmosphere it provides. It is also easy to repair, as scratches can be sanded down.

If you do not want to spend any time maintaining your worktop, solid wood is not ideal because it does require sealing with oil or lacquer.

If you have a young family a solid wood surface may not be the best option because spillages should be wiped immediately to prevent permanent staining.

    Man Made Granite Worktops (Quartz)
